Setting up a BTGuard is not too hard once you are a Bit Torrent client who supports SOCKS5 Proxy and not merely those that are supported by BTGuard installer. This gives the user some insight to deal with problems that may arise. The first step is for one to sign up to any BTGuard site. The process takes a short time as one gets to configure a client. It is charged, it is not for free. For one month, one has to part with $6.95. Those who however, have multiple months at a time, get big discounts. This may make one subscribe for roughly $59.95 for a given year. When this has been done, a short notification informing you that you are already registered will appear.
Once your BTGuard is ready, you can now open your torrent client of choice and find the proxy settings within given preferences. It is possible for your client to shift them to a different place which may mean you have to Google around to find them. The settings should have proxy type, proxy host, proxy port, username and password. It is important to take some precautions e.g. using proxy for host name or tracker look-ups, meaning you have to check all boxes that say anything that sounds like that. It is also important to disable connections or features that may compromise the proxy.
The third step in installing the BTGuard is checking if it is working. You have to check the Torrent IP site. The site is able to allow you to know your IP address of the torrent client which enables you to know if your proxy is actually working. There are guidelines on how to check if it works. Lastly, to protect your connections from being throttled, it will be necessary to encrypt all the traffic. This is provided for by the Protocol Encryption section. At the same time, BTGuard also offers encryption service.
