This beautiful piece was fired Hawaiian Style in a Pit. The artist Ramon Camarillo taught this method to Juliano. The piece is slowly fired in a pit of sawdust without using glazes. Chemicals are added during the firing. The pure blacks are from the sawdust. The white is the natural clay, and the color is from the chemicals added.

Raku Vase : This piece is done using a method called horsehair firing. The piece is fired to a temperature of 1200 degrees F and pulled out of the kiln. Then horsehair from the tail of a horse is placed strategically on the pot burning smoke and line patterns into the pottery surface. The results are stunning. The pottery piece takes on all the characteristics of a raku piece in that it will not hold water and should not be used for food or drink. This will be a lovely addition to your collection.
